Growing Brahma kamal with a leaf

Also known as “Queen of the Night”, this mysterious flower blooms rarely and can be seen bloomed only in night. It has a distinct smell, some find it fragrant and some find it obnoxious.

Our brahmakamal first bloomed in July but somehow we missed to see it. The next morning when we realized that it had bloomed, we were very disappointed.

This time we kept checking on the small plant and it bloomed in front of us, what a beautiful sight !!!

Some facts about Brahmakamal:

Growing basil from a sprig

We got some basil from bigbasket and tried to grow it. And Look, it is growing and flourishing ๐Ÿ˜€

Basil in the rain.

Look how beautifully it is growing.

We noticed that one of the sprigs of basil we bought from bigbasket looked quiet strong, and because we love growing everything and anything, we experimented by sticking the stem in a very small pot.

After some days, it started growing ๐Ÿ˜€ Yeayyyy ๐Ÿ˜€

So after growing chilies, tomatoes, curry leaves, mint and clusterbeans, we have this teeny tiny basil plant.

It is growing beautifully but I am super awed to see that 2 leaves are coming even underwater. Looks beautiful, I am loving it ๐Ÿ˜

My Different Peppers

Growing different kinds of peppers is such an amazing experience, Super easy to grow and the yield is always good with minimum work. We have grown and harvested Capsicums, green chilies, Jalapeรฑos and my current ones are the piri piri peppers also known as bird’s eye chili ( we got the seeds from Goa). Click to find How i Pickle these jalapenos?

Capsicums are an excellent source of vitamin A and C (red contain more than green capsicums). They are also a good source of dietary fibre, vitamin E, B6 and folate.

I pickle the Jalapeรฑos and use it in pizza muffins, pizza, pasta and sandwiches. Jalapeรฑos contains lots of vitamin C and vitamin B6.

Growing peppers is very easy, just take out the seeds, dry in shade and plant at least 10-15 inches apart in a well lit sunny place. Water regularly.

Fruits of labour, bitter tasting though they may be. After 3 months of growing absolutely wildly and spreading everywhere in our balcony, we finally uprooted the bitter gourd vines. They yielded smaller fruit than we’d hoped for, but turned out very tasty just the same.

An amazing Stuffed Karela recipe coming up on the blog.

Our newest possession, a beautiful yellow rose plant. This pic is without any filter.
